Apple’s Intelligent Move to Fast Track AI Development
Reinforcing its commitment for taking the integrating artificial intelligence across Mac, iPhone and iPad, Apple has also announced in WWDC 2024 to collaborate with OpenAI’s ChatGPT for better information accessibility to its users. Apple’s virtual assistant Siri can ask questions to ChatGPT with prior user consent for information. All the information accessibility with ChatGPT will be free for iPhone users and users don’t need to create any extra account with ChatGPT, moreover your request and information accessed will not be stored by ChatGPT.
Apple also introduced a plethora of smart applications built on Apple Intelligence catering to different user requirements which users are well familiar with since AI introduction. Apple Intelligence will be available for iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and MacOS Sequoia in the second half of 2024. Apple has well integrated Apple Intelligence keeping in mind different needs and requirements of Apple users.
Genmoji:
Apple users can create custom emojis with Apple’s Intelligence by prompting the description of your choice. Apple calls it Genmoji allowing users more creative ability to express themselves. Meta AI introduced almost similar AI generated sticker product few months back and with Apple allowing emoji generation, users are flooded with creative options.
Apple’s writing Tool:
With the integration of Apple’s new writing tools across systems, users are able to modify the existing copy by rewriting it, summarize the existing contents and reply to your messages. Users will be able to execute these tasks across Mail, Notes, Pages and third-party applications. Proofreading is particularly useful for content creators and businesses for structural and grammatical suggestions.
Upgraded Siri Response:
Siri has started taking the text prompts as input much like ChatGPT. Siri is able to answer multitude of questions on any topic of your choice and as mentioned before users have the option to get answers from ChatGPT also. Siri now has the ability to be able to extract precise contents from the available documents for e.g. if you want to extract a document sent to you by your office colleague yesterday then you can tell Siri to extract the document from your colleague and also any exact information from that document like document number.
Image Generation:
Apple has also forayed into much awaited creative image generation with the introduction of Apple Intelligence. We already have image generation text to image products like Microsoft Designer, Google’s ImageFX platforms and OpenAI’s DALLE E3. Apple users are able to write prompts to create images in three different formats Sketch, Illustration and Animation. A standalone application has also been introduced for users to create images as per their interests.
Cloud-Compute Models:
Users’ privacy and data security is top priority for Apple and even with the introduction of Apple Intelligence Apple is making sure to send cryptographically secure data to server when needed. Apple Intelligence will use cloud-based servers using Apple silicon to access the data securely.
Intelligent Mail and Notification Management:
Notification management with Apple Intelligence prioritizes alerts as per the importance showing important notifications at the top of the stack. The Reduce Interruptions Focus blocks unnecessary notifications during active hours showing only the important ones. The same features are applied for prioritizing the Mails showing the important ones at the top. Users will have the benefit of viewing summary of the Mail instead of just first few lines. Replaying to the Mails have become more convenient which smart replies drafted as per the inputs.
Image Search and Cleanup:
Apple users will be able to search images and videos with text prompts, not limiting to just the search of specific object, users can point out particular moment in a video to resume. Much like other AI applications, users will have the option to remove particular objects from images keeping the quality consistent. Memory features help in crafting a storyline with intuitive movie and music suggestion.
